I’m often asked for recommendations on a good wine reference.  I recommend Windows on the World Complete Wine Course for two reasons. The first is that simply, its a great book in that its priced right, has received excellent reviews and is updated on a regular basis (the 2008 revision is now out).  This book will definitely improve you knowledge of wine and introduce you to new regions and varietals.  It’s not only a great place to start if you are just starting to learn about wine, but is also a great reference that you will refer back to for a long time.

The second is that I have a personal connection to the restaurant Windows on the World.   Windows on the World was at the top of the World Trade Center.  I worked at the World Trade Center in the early 90s and have great memories of my time there.  We had several corporate dinners at Windows on the World that I remember vividly.  You could see all of Manhattan and literally felt that you were hanging out the side of the building since you were sitting so close to the windows.  The food was as good as the view, amazing.  We had a seafood appetizer “tower” that was several tiers high with all types of fresh seafood.  For my entree I had venison, not something offered at a typical restaurant. It still makes me sad to not see the Twin Towers when I visit NYC, but having this book is a great way to remember my time there and also continue to expand my knowledge of wine and thus my enjoyment of it.
